last week in a glance

havent been blogging for a while! will briefly talk about the past week.

last sunday was class outing! i was performing guard duty on saturday, and my tour of duty ended on sunday, so i had to rush home, bathe, and catch some sleep first. after that, i went to city hall to meet whoever's coming for lunch. turned out to be only a small bunch of us (est + grace + kenneth + js + myself) we had lunch at jacks place, followed by kbox, and wang kan joined us at this point in time.

since there were'nt many people at kbox, everyone could sing quite a lot. it was quite fun, singing all the new songs AND crazy songs. and we made an interesting discovery on jiashun's talents :P after kbox, we had dinner, and mr lee was supposed to join us (with ethan) but we got pangsehed ): still, we had a nice gathering at ministry of food, and the dessert was fabulous.

anyway, i missed the table tennis women's team finals that night due to class outing, and it turned out that we were unable to defeat china to claim the gold medal. still, it took a great effort for our singaporean women's team to make it to the finals and win the silver medal. once again, congrats to them for winning singapore's first medal in 48 years.

on wed, i had an engagement lunch with my DE and fellow scholars. it was an enjoyable and casual session, and we found out a bit more of what we can expect in the months to come, after our ORD! *looks forward to flying off next year*

on thur, i went back to camp in the morning, and then left early to get ready for the discussion session chaired by Senior Minister of State, Mr Lui. it was an eye-opening session, where fellow scholars fired their opinions, alternative ideas, and doubts on the PM's national day rally, and we got to see various issues from the perspectives of many others. it was a rather fruitful session that night (:

on friday, which was yesterday, i was on off, so i stayed at home and watched THREE TABLE TENNIS MATCHES! omg. i watched the one with li jia wei playing against zhang yining, then the one with li jia wei playing against guo yue, and finally the gold medal match where zhang yining played wang nan. undoubtedly, the chinese team have fought brilliantly, and they do deserve the gold, silver and bronze women's singles medals. however, i was rather disappointed that our singapore table tennis players were unable to claim any of the table tennis single medals. li jia wei and feng tianwei definitely have the capability. in the case of feng tianwei, it was probably lack of experience, and i look forward to seeing her claim one of the singles medals in 2012 (IN LONDON!) haha ill be in UK at that point in time, so maybe i might have a chance of going there? in the case of li jia wei, i felt that she probably needed to be able to better handle pressure. hopefully we will have more medals coming our way in the next olympics (:

oh, and fish has yet another nice new song!

congratulations

CONGRATULATIONS to the Singapore Women's Table Tennis Team!

it was a long match and was a close fight right till the end. the game tested both the mental and physical resilience of the players. The Singaporean team managed to persevere and secured this important victory, which is an important milestone in our sporting history. Our win against korea meant that we would be getting our first olympic medal AFTER 48 YEARS! really proud of the team (: hope they will continue displaying this commendable perseverance in their finals, even though the world rank of the china team players are all higher than that of the singaporean team.

i was glad that i didnt miss the whole match. i went for some e-prep roadshow at maju camp today, which was like a sort of ORD talk, where they reminded us that ORD is just around the corner, and that we should really start considering what we want to do after ORD. after the talk, we were dismissed and so i got to watch the match when li jia wei was playing kim kyung ah. good job to the singapore team for putting up such a valiant fight!

HAIS! looks like im going to miss the finals this sunday because of class outing ):

by the way, heres some random info for those of us who had studied / are studying in bishan and knows about the "bishan lensman". i just found out that he went on papers:

TP!

YES! i finally passed my TP today! haha i was so worried that i couldnt eat lunch. the first shock of the day came when my instructor told me that his car met with an accident yesterday, and the car door was dented. :/ the mirror was also not working that well. when the TP started, i was so nervous that i almost didnt see a car driving past when i was exiting my parking lot.

after the shaky start, i went into the circuit. my first station was parallel parking, and that was at the lots which i hated (the narrow confined space parallel parking lots). if u go CDC, ull know what im talking about. there r 2 versions of parking lots for both parallel and perpendicular parking. one version is the easier one with more space, and the other one is the harder one where you only have a narrow space to manoeuver.

i was so scared that i would strike kerb for the parallel parking, cos i didnt dare to stick to the left hand kerb (due to my faulty left side mirror), so when i was turning into the lot, my wheel was soooo close to striking the kerb. BUT THANKFULLY, i managed to perform the parallel parking smoothly.

next up was slope, which went pretty fine. then, it was directional change lot. once again, i was afraid i wouldnt be able to judge properly due to the faulty left side mirror, but thankfully i was able to clear that too. then i went through perpendicular parking, S course and finally i reached my most feared station - crank course. i was steering extra slowly through the course this time, and heaved a sigh of relief when i left the course without striking kerb. after that, i exited the test centre, and went driving outside. the test route i got was pretty easy, so i was pretty confident i would do well this time.

crossing my fingers, i entered the tester's room, where he pointed out my mistakes one by one, before finally saying, "YOU PASSED." OMG! i was so excited at that moment. after that, i waited for the safety video (which was a half hour wait). parts of the safety video were quite gross, showing the various gruesome accident scenes.

after the video, i went to get a queue number for my license. i was horrified to see like around 40-50 people in front of me. then there was this sneaky guy who actually took lots of queue numbers during the half hour wait for the safety video. what a typical kiasu singaporean! he was probably afraid that his number got skipped so he took a bunch of numbers. i was so frustrated when several numbers were announced but noone came forward (because of all the numbers he had taken). then the counter switched back to PDL application mode and i resumed waiting. after a 1+ hour wait, i finally got to submit my license application! immediately after that, i went to get my P-plates before going home. the entire duration took about 1.5-2 hours OMG! but it was worth it! (: i am now a qualified driver!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!

This year's NDP was great! Haha, usually I'm only interested with the parade segment of the NDP celebrations, but I ended up sitting through the whole parade + performance this yr, cos I was waiting for joi to appear, and she only appeared right at the end. I must say that all the performers did a good job, as they continued to put up a great show despite the rain. This, by itself, was a far better display of the resilience of Singaporeans than what the performances portrayed.

Anyway, for the parade, I liked the additional aircraft display, where they tried doing various breathtaking stunts in the air. For the performance segment, my favourite performance was the statues of inspiration. Those statues representing various fields / qualities were creatively designed and looked quite cool when they began rising.

Finally, joi appeared in the last segment to sing the theme song this year. i was initially quite afraid that she might not be able to rise up to the occasion, as her voice is rather gentle, and might not have the power to psyche up the crowds on such a big occasion. To my surprise, joi sang exceedingly well tonight, and i would say that this is a big milestone in her career. Way to go, joi! Your performance was marvellous! (: she should have sang the chi version too (qing kong wan li), so as to ward off the rain clouds HAHA.

4 days before TP

yesterday, i did something really bad. i caused someone to get scolded by his tester while he was on TP. the situation is like this. i was waiting for the traffic light to turn green so that i can proceed straight. at this point in time, there was a guy who was taking TP was at a side road on the left on my lane. He was about to turn right, and i am guessing that he checked his right blind spot first before checking the left side to see if there were any incoming cars.

At this point in time, my traffic light turned green and so i picked up speed and moved. The guy taking TP didn't notice my car and continued to turn right. Then, he stopped suddenly, in the middle of my lane. I'm not sure if it was the tester who pulled the handbrake, or him who E-braked. but whatever the case, half his car body was in my lane. In the end, he reversed back into his side road to let me pass. (which i doubt was the right thing to do) haha based on traffic rules i wasnt in the wrong since i was going straight and had the right of way, but i felt very guilty, and hope i dont get bad karma out of this. *crosses fingers* TP on monday leh. let me get me license once and for all.

ok. then when i got home yesterday, there was cai1 ge1 gao1 shou3 on radio, so i decided to give it a try, and I ACTUALLY MANAGED TO CALL IN! however, i only managed to guess 4 out of 5 songs, and got the 1st one wrong ): bleahh. but it was still a good attempt, and i was actually the first to call in! i didnt know the whole conversation was recorded until later, when they replayed the whole thing. :/

and they du jia shou bo-ed fish's new song yesterday! i like it a lot (:

had a busy week! first was IMT, then putting up nat day decor, then the ATP itself. haha. ATP was a long and draggy day, and we had practices before our actual test, so we ended going through many rounds of shooting. was really tired at the end of ATP, yet we still had to do all the post-admin, and in the end we slept at like 2ish, and still had to wake up the next day, as it was a normal working day. so glad that ATP is over. thats like the 2nd last big thing before my ORD. next up will be the mobilisation then i can say goodbye to sungei gedong liao :D

anyway, i realised my second tp is coming up again! OMG! it seemed very far away the last time i booked this date, but in a flash, im now less than 2 weeks away from my 2nd TP! *panicks* at least im driving much better and more confidently now. still not very good at overtaking (cos ubi is so uber crowded on a weekday), but im generally fine with everything else liao. hopefully i wont be overconfident and strike kerb again this time.

lastly, i recently got addicted to derrick's wu fa gui lei! and this song charted at #17 today! haha anyone has the song? SEND ME!
